Smiling through opposites .. !! :-))

"Your hindi..." she rattled off some words after that which left me VERY surprised! I was totally taken aback to hear that I speak pathetic Hindi! ;-) All my life I have been hearing that I speak the national language reasonably well, and have in fact been appreciated off and on for pulling it off quite well but that day was a revelation!

It took me some time to collect myself and after a point of time, I slowly started smiling. This is not the first time this has happened. The clash of opposites! Often I have come across situations when people have said completely opposite things about me to me leaving me kinda bemused! How does it happen?! I am in a kind of wonder!

Another example, I am in the habit of sharing knowledge sutras in my Facebook profile regularly. While a lot of people have told me that they enjoy reading the sutras there are few others who made it clear that they did not find anything nice there and in fact came close to ridiculing my habit of sharing knowledge. ;-) It is interesting to observe how on one side you get a Thumbs UP and on the other side just the opposite!

One more example. It is about my looks, my personality. While there are people who just love the way I am, there are others who clearly want me to make improvements on many fronts. Right from what I should wear to how I should handle my finances, they want me to toe the line. Absolutely.

Some say I look like a Bengali while others say “Kisi bhi angle se nahi. You look like a pukka South Indian/North Indian.” While some say, me and my sis look like twins, there are others who don’t find even an iota of similarity between me and her! Hehe :) Some of my friends just love my cooking and there are others who can’t imagine how anyone can like my cooking! Some people say I am extremely organized and admire the way I juggle so many things, there are others who look at me and say, “you are such a mess”. Hahaha :D It is extremely interesting to recount all the completely contrasting views.

While the appreciation and love is always more in life, there are days when the opposite happens too! Amidst all these opposites and contrasting views there is something beautiful that happens within. The mind, which is in the habit of becoming a football of others' opinions very easily, settles down completely. It gently extricates itself from the outside world and turns inside. Something dawns within, a quiet feeling that I am actually neither of the opposites!

Maybe I am something beyond?

Who am I? :-)
